Privacy policy
Last updated October 9, 2026
This policy explains what personal information WaggleFinder collects when you use this website, what we do with it, and the choices you have. “We” and “us” mean WaggleFinder.
The short version
- We collect what we need to run the directory and your account.
- We don't sell your personal information, and we don't use advertising or analytics cookies.
- Your reviews show your first name and last initial. Your saved listings are private, and so are your pet photos unless you share them.
- You can change your name, email address and password yourself, and ask us to delete your account.
What we collect
When you visit
- Cookies the site needs to work. One keeps your session, including whether you're logged in, one protects forms from misuse, and if you tick “Remember me” when you log in, one keeps you logged in for longer.
- Your IP address and browser details (the “user agent”), stored with your session to keep it working and secure. A session ends after 120 minutes without activity, and its record is then cleared out.
- A record of each page you open or form you send: the address, when, your IP address and browser details, your account if you're logged in, and what you entered in forms. Passwords, codes and other secrets are never recorded. We use these records to keep the site secure and to fix problems.
- Searches. We record what was searched for (the words, service and place) and how many results it found, but not who searched, to improve the directory.
- Your IP address, briefly, to limit how often forms and searches can be used, which keeps out spam and password guessing.
When you create an account
- Your name, email address and password. Passwords are stored scrambled (hashed), in a form we can't read.
- If you sign up or log in with Google, it sends us your name and email address, and we keep an ID that links the two accounts. We don't get your Google password, and we never post anything for you.
We use your email address to log you in and to email you about your account: to confirm your address, to reset your password, and to tell you when your email address is changed.
When you add things to the site
- Reviews are public as soon as you post them, with your first name and last initial (for example “Pat S.”), your rating, what you wrote and, if you say, when you visited.
- Listings you add are public once a moderator approves them. We note that you added them.
- Claims on a business are seen by our staff: we keep your claim, how it was checked and their notes.
- Reports about reviews and errors in listings are seen only by our team.
- Pet photos are private: only you can see them, unless you share one in the public gallery. Then anyone can see it, with its caption and your first name and last initial, until you stop sharing it. We remove the details saved inside the image file, such as where it was taken, and don't keep the original file.
- Saved listings are private.
- Likes on blog posts: we show how many people like a post, but not who.
- The newsletter: if you subscribe, we keep your email address to send it to you. It isn't linked to an account.
- Messages you send from the contact page, with your name and email address, come to us by email so we can reply. We don't keep them on the site.
How we use it
We use your information to run the site and your account, show the reviews and listings people add, check them for spam and abuse, keep accounts secure, answer your messages and improve the directory. We don't sell your personal information or use it for advertising.
How long we keep it
- Your account, and what's in it, for as long as you have the account.
- When an account is deleted, its reviews, pet photos, saved listings, likes and claims are deleted with it. Listings added with it stay on the site, and reports made with it are kept, without saying who made them.
- Password reset links stop working after 60 minutes.
- Newsletter addresses, until you unsubscribe.
- Records of pages opened and forms sent, for 90 days.
- Search records, which don't say who searched, for as long as they help us improve the directory.
Your choices
- Change your name and email address on My profile, and your password on Change password.
- To delete your account, get a copy of your information, unsubscribe from the newsletter or ask anything about your privacy, email us at info@wagglefinder.com.
- Depending on where you live, the law may give you more rights, such as to object to how we use your information or to complain to a data protection authority. Contact us and we'll help.
Children
WaggleFinder is not meant for children under 13, and we don't knowingly collect their information. If you think a child has given us theirs, contact us and we'll delete it.
Changes to this policy
When we change this policy, we'll update this page and the date at the top. If a change affects how we use information you've already given us, we'll also tell you on the site or by email.
